Matich Construction Repair of Cracked Asphalt at Eagles Knoll in Big Bear Lake CA
Here are photos of what were supposedly "repairs" to the cracked asphalt. Eagles Knoll Association President John Riedl said he would follow up with Matich Construction back in December 2013. It is now June, 2014 and the cracks and "repairs" are the same.
One would think Robert Matich would train his people to fill in the entire crack rather than stopping half-way through.

This blog is created to document the actions of the HOA at Eagles Knoll in Big Bear Lake CA 92135
My first job is to document the crappy road repaving that was pushed through by the HOA President John Riedl at a cost of a $1600 special assessment for each homeowner.
The roads in our gated community was repaved in the summer of 2012 by Matich Construction. By March, 2013 over 90 cracks have developed in the new asphalt in our small community of 90 homes. Matich Construction delayed the repair of the cracks until September/October 2013 because they did not have the resources to take care of it when they were doing work for the City of Big Bear Lake.
The repair was someone trying to put some slurry into the cracks. But in many places, they missed.
I brought this up to John but the answers were like I challenge you to show me any asphalt road that doesn't have cracks. I did and he didn't respond.
At a Board meeting in December 2013, a lady said what we have, with all the cracks, is still better than before. So we got something better than before for $1600!
I tracked down the manufacturer Propex of the underlayment or Petromat used by All American Asphalt in Corona CA. Mr. John Oldenburger at Propex Global seemed interested when first contacted regarding the performance of their product. Then he dropped off. At All American Asphalt, a guy named Brian (briana@allamericanasphalt.com) said he goes up to Big Bear Lake every month and will take a look. This was on Jan10, 2014. He stopped returning phone calls and emails. I guess All American is also not customer focused. Don't companies like Propex Global and All American Asphalt stand behind their own work anymore?
Then I got hold of Robert Matich of Matich Construction. He spent 15 minutes explaining to me that we are better off than the City of Indio because they paved at the same time as Eagle's Knoll and had even more cracks. But the City of Indio is using public tax dollars and we homeowners have to pay our special assessment. I have a call into City of Indio to see how they handled it.
Mr. Matich also said to me "if it was my money, I would have waited a few more years to do it right." Why didn't you tell this to John Riedl? So Matich Construction knows we are not doing it right and still took our money.
So much for now. Here are photos of 3 of the 90-plus cracks that appeared after only 6 months.
